Who We Are
Meals on Wheels NEPA is a community-based program that delivers nutritious meals and supportive services to people who are unable to shop for, prepare, or access food on their own.
At Meals on Wheels we focus on helping:
- Older adults
- Adults with disabilities
- Individuals who are homebound or medically vulnerable
Our goal is simple but powerful: help people remain safe, nourished, and independent in their own homes.

Our Mission
At Meals on Wheels NEPA, our mission is to not only feed our older population, but to be a lifeline for those who are most isolated and alone.
Our staff and volunteers who bring meals are more than just delivery drivers, they are people who care deeply for our clients. They take the time to visit with the client, and ensure they doing okay.
It takes a tremendous amount of volunteer time and donations to keep our services accessible to those in need. If you are someone who is passionate about taking care of the people in our communities, please reach out to help today.
Our History
Meals on Wheels of NEPA was one of the original agencies funded under the Older American Acts to provide nutritional services to home-bound older persons. The Agency’s founder, and first director, alerted the nation to the unmet nutritional needs of the elderly, during congressional hearings in the late 1960’s. From its modest origins in an unused hospital building, the agency has developed over the last 57 years to become the major provider of nutritional services to the elderly and disabled population of Lackawanna County; while also nourishing Luzerne, Wyoming, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties.
Treasured Friends
The Treasured Friends Furever pet program is free to anyone receiving home delivered meals. Older adults are often vulnerable to loneliness, isolation, and depression- all of which contribute to the onset of other health problems. For many, bonding with a furry friend is the perfect remedy, providing a source of joy, companionship, and unconditional love.
If a client has difficulty providing their pet with food or veterinary care, Meals on Wheels NEPA can assist in some cases. If you are receiving meals and need assistance with your pet, please reach out today.
