About Meals on Wheels of NEPA

HISTORY

HISTORY

HISTORY

Meals on Wheels of NEPA has a significant history of community advocacy. Founded in 1969, this agency was one of the pioneering servicers funded under the Older Americans Act to provide nutritional support to home-bound older adults. The agency's founder was one of the advocates who petitioned Congress for the implementation of the Older Americans Act to address the unmet needs of seniors across the nation. The agency has evolved over the last 55 years to become the major provider of nutritional services to the elderly and disabled population of NEPA, nourishing approximately 1,000 individuals across six counties.

GROWTH

HISTORY

HISTORY

Meals on Wheels of NEPA has developed an umbrella of community health initiatives to address the evolving needs of the community we serve. Collectively, our home delivered supportive services holistically embrace older adults to promote independence and safe aging within the community.

Within the past five years, Meals on Wheels as an organization has doubled in size. The number of meals produced annually has more than tripled, and the number of older adults served has doubled.

SERVICE

HISTORY

SERVICE

The agency now provides meals to older adults and community partners across Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wyoming, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne counties. In order to sustain the ever-expanding programmatic efforts, Meals on Wheels of NEPA relies on the support of our community members.

The populations of older adults and individuals with disabilities continues to grow exponentially, as does the requirement for services to address this vulnerable population's needs.
