Meal Delivery and
Delivery volunteers are the heart and soul of Meals on Wheels and touch lives with food and friendship. Deliver a meal to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities in Lackawanna County and brighten their days. Your smile may be the only one they see all day! Annually, our volunteers deliver over 208,000 meals! Volunteer weekdays from approximately 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. You may volunteer once a week, once a month, or whenever your schedule permits. Delivery teams, consisting of a driver and visitor, deliver meals to between 8 and 16 people on each route. We provide orientation and training at convenient times as well as allow you to ride along with an experienced team member to see how it’s done. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. You will also use your own car and gas to deliver meals.
This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for people who are unable to volunteer on a regular basis. Substitute drivers and visitors are needed to fill in on routes that are open due to volunteer cancellations. There’s no need to commit to a specific day; your name will be added to our substitute call list, and you will be contacted on an as-needed basis to see if you are available to substitute.
These volunteers are called upon when weather conditions turn wintry and substitutes are needed.
Volunteers are needed on call to help with mailings and other projects on an as-needed basis at the Meals on Wheels office.
Volunteers are needed to answer the phone and provide information about our services for a few hours one day a week, during our office hours of 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
We need volunteers to help with various events throughout the year including fundraising events, community information sessions and health fairs. Times vary but may include evening and weekend hours.
